August 22, 2023—The Pedro E. Guerrero Arts Center (“the Center”) received a grant of $1000 from the Florence Copper Community Foundation in May 2023.

The Center was established in Summer 2022 in memory of Pedro (Pete) Guerrero, a local resident who was Frank Lloyd Wright’s photographer, by his niece, his widow, and a small group of local artists. It is located in the Suter House in Historic Florence, where Pete and his wife Dixie lived. The Center provides space, inspiration, and instruction to local residents to create art, tell their stories, and share in the appreciation of the arts.

The Foundation grant supports the Center as it conducts free and low-cost workshops in the visual, literary, and cultural arts, including paper flower making, stained glass, weaving, plein air painting, calligraphy, and creative writing. “What this money will mean for us is outreach, outreach, outreach, so we can let the community know what we’re up to and get some new art done in Florence,” said Marian Palaia, Co-Executive Director of the Center.
