Florence Copper Tuition Reimbursement Allows Employee to Receive Masters from ASU

July 14, 2023—Florence Copper employee Mikel Smothermon graduated with a Master of Science in Environmental and Resource Management from the Ira A Fulton School of Engineering at Arizona State University. Smothermon received his degree in May 2023 after completing the two-year program.

Smothermon’s program expenses were covered by Florence Copper’s tuition reimbursement program, which allows Florence Copper employees to further their education and careers while working at the company. Smothermon has worked at Florence Copper for over 10 years in various roles and was eager to take advantage of the program.

“There is a tradition at ASU to give a sole of gratitude to someone who has helped you immensely throughout your studies,” said Smothermon. “I am dedicating my graduation sole to Florence Copper because I would not have been able to make it through these past two years without the help and support of my team here.”

“Florence Copper is committed to supporting the educational aspirations of our employees,” said Sophie Dessart, Manager of Communications and Public Affairs at Florence Copper. “All of us on the team are so proud of Mikel for this great accomplishment.” Smothermon’s new degree is not his only accomplishment of late. He also recently celebrated a promotion to Senior Environmental Coordinator at Florence Copper.
